DADMAC monomer, chemically known as diallyldimethylammonium chloride, is a unique cationic monomer that polymerizes to form homo- and copolymers with a wide range of molecular weights. The resulting polymers, particularly polyDADMAC, possess high cationic charge density, making them extremely effective in neutralizing negatively charged particles in suspension, thus facilitating aggregation and settling. In water treatment, polyDADMAC synthesized from DADMAC monomer is employed as a primary coagulant or coagulant aid in drinking water clarifiers and wastewater treatment plants. Its efficacy reduces the need for inorganic coagulants like alum, leading to lower sludge generation and improved water quality. In the pulp and paper industry, DADMAC-based polymers are used as retention aids, drainage aids, and dry-strength agents, enhancing paper strength and fiber retention.
