Polyacrylamide for enhanced oil recovery (EOR) is a polymer-based technology used to increase the amount of crude oil extracted from reservoirs. Traditional extraction methods recover only a fraction of the original oil in place, leaving significant reserves untapped. Polymer flooding with polyacrylamide is a proven method to improve volumetric sweep efficiency by increasing water viscosity and reducing its mobility, thus preventing premature breakthrough and directing more water flow through lower-permeability zones. This process mobilizes remaining oil, leading to incremental recovery rates of 5-15% of the initial oil in place. The effectiveness of polyacrylamide for EOR depends on several factors: polymer molecular weight, degree of hydrolysis, concentration, salinity, and temperature conditions. Selecting the right polymer is critical.
