PDADMAC polymer is a water-soluble cationic polyelectrolyte famous for its use in flocculation and coagulation. The production involves polymerization of diallyldimethylammonium chloride (DADMAC), resulting in a linear polymer with quaternary ammonium groups that carry a permanent positive charge regardless of pH. This characteristic makes PDADMAC effective in neutralizing negatively charged impurities like clays, organic matter, and oil emulsions. In water treatment, it is often applied as a primary coagulant or as a flocculant aid upstream or downstream of inorganic metal salts, enhancing particle aggregation and settling. One significant advantage is that PDADMAC can be used effectively across a wide pH range (pH 1-14), offering flexibility for varying water chemistry. Additionally, its high charge density reduces the required dosage, lowering operational costs and minimizing sludge volume.
